Meet Lorna

I’m a writer, editor, speaker and writing coach based in Oxford, England, where I run my literary consultancy, Fictionfire. The love of story is core to who I am. Writing, sharing, explaining how story works – these are the passions that drive me. My other passions are the historic city I live in, the Scottish coast where I grew up, the Cornish coast I visit as often as I can – and my husband and two sons, of course…

I’m a past Ian St James Award and Historical Novel Society short story award-winner, as well as being listed for the Fish Prize and the Bridport Prize. I reached the shortlist for the Mogford Prize in both 2021 and 2022, and the Historical Novel Society’s First Chapters competition in 2024. I republished my novel The Chase, originally published by Bloomsbury. I’ve also written a short collection of stories, An Oxford Vengeance and am about to publish my second collection, One Morning in Provence. I am currently working on a book on mindset for writers, and a new novel.
